Minutes of the 14th Annual General Meeting held at the Community Centre

7.30 p m 13th January 2006


 

The Captain, Tim O’Sullivan opened the meeting and welcomed the members.


 

1. Apologies Roy Bradbury, Carole Chinn, Colin Clifford, John Considine, Dan Dawson Frances Dawson, Neil Godfrey, James and Jennie Henderson, Jack Kidd, Rosemary Knight, Graham Pope, Ian Styles, Frank Watson, and Paul Weston, Barry and Jaki White.


 

2. Minutes The minutes of the 2005 AGM were approved.


 

3. Captain’s report Tim O’Sullivan thanked the members for their support in what had been a very successful year for the Society. He recalled the enjoyment of playing in the rain at Silverstone in the Spring and again at Weston Turville in the Autumn. Although the final of the Pairs Competition remained to be played the two days when rounds were played at Mentmore went well. As always the Bowls and Golf event was a great success and ended with a superb barbecue at Upper Wingbury Farm.

Tim congratulated the year’s winners – Peter Lucas at the Spring meeting, David Morgan at the Autumn meeting and again at the Past Captains day held at Weston Turville and the Bowls Club who regained the Hanlon Trophy

Neil Godfrey was welcomed as a new member.


 

  1. Ladies Captain’s

Report Maureen Westley endorsed Tim’s thanks to the members and congratulated Ann Cox on winning to Rose Bowl at Silverstone and Thelma Mallett for taking the honours (and the Cottam trophy) in the autumn. Maureen remarked that although she did not live in the village (her home is in a nearby hamlet!) the Golfing Society played a part in the social life of Wingrave. She hoped that more ladies from the village and its environs would join the Society.

5. Treasurer’s Report

Roy Heape presented the audited Accounts, which were approved. (Proposed by Bruce Kitchener seconded by Richard Keighley). Attention was drawn to the surplus on the Bowls and Golf event. This was entirely due to the good house keeping of Jennie Henderson who produced an excellent barbecue, greatly under budget. As a result £50 had been paid to the Bowls Club, Roy mentioned that the subscription for 2005 would remain at £5.

  1. Handicap C’tee

Report Jonathon Clifford (reporting for the first time after taking over from his father) asked members to examine the Handicap list and advise him of ‘Club Handicap’ changes

7. Appointment of

Officers Captain – Nigel Palmer – nominated by Tim O’Sullivan was voted into office with acclaim.

At this point Tim vacated the chair in favour of the newly elected Captain.

Nigel thanked the members for their support. To applause he thanked Tim and Maureen for their captaincies in 2005.


 

Ladies Captain – Maureen Westley – Maureen having been persuaded to serve for a further year was nominated by Alison Sherwood Bruce and elected with acclaim.

Maureen spoke of her pleasure at her reappointment and welcomed Anita Parker as a new member of the Society. She said that she was delighted to report that Frances Dawson was making a good recovery from a serious illness and hoped to be playing golf soon.


 

Other Officers – The Events Organiser (Alison Sherwood Bruce), and the Secretary/Treasurer (Roy Heape) and the Handicap Secretary (Jonathon Clifford had all indicated that they were prepared to serve another year and were duly appointed. Proposed by Peter Lucas seconded by John Nutkins.

 

Committee Members Alan Mallett and Tim O’Sullivan were elected to the

committee following nominations received ahead of the meeting


 

Vice Captain – Nigel Palmer has asked John Considine to be his Vice Captain. John had replied saying that he is honoured to be asked and is pleased to accept.


 

8. 2006 Events Alison announced that the Spring Meeting will be at Buckingham Golf Club on Thursday 25th May 2006 where we shall play 27 holes and stay at the golf club for supper. Past Captains day will be at Mentmore this year with supper at Cheddington. Bowls & Golf will be on Sunday 6th August and, as in previous years, will be followed by a BBQ at Upper Wingbury Farm at the kind invitation of James & Jennie. The Autumn meeting is planned to take place on 22nd September but this will need to be confirmed when the venue is decided. Alison pointed out that once again the Pairs Competition has not been completed within the year and that for this coming year the competition will be played to a new format over two days 30th April and 25th June at Mentmore. The draw for partners to be made at the supper following the AGM. Details of this competition and the other events will be communicated to members.


 

9. Any other Business Roy Heape proposed and Alison seconded, a vote of thanks to the Wingrave Community Association for its support of the Society and particularly for allowing the Society to use the Centre without charge on a Friday evening for the AGM and Supper and for the supper after our Autumn meeting last year.

 

The meeting closed at 8.10 p m and was followed by a supper attended by 55 members and friends.

During and after supper everyone enjoyed the use of the Crazy Golf course laid out by the Events Secretary, ably supported by the outgoing Captain. This year’s Captain Nigel Palmer won the Crazy Golf prize of a bottle of Champagne. The ‘Green Fees’ were donated to the Wingrave Community Association.
