Wingrave with Rowsham Parish Council inaugurated 4th December 1894.

 

1895

 

Yearly election of Councillors. Protests on lack of heat and light for Council Meetings in the Church Rooms and removal of furniture by the Vicar. Review of Parish Charities. Repair of footpaths. Appointment of Parish Constables only "fit and proper persons to apply".

Telegraph Office opened in the village.
Parish Council Meetings open to public.

Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrated - dinner and tea for all residents. "The evening was spent in a most enjoyable manner with sports on the village green".

Two year election of Councillors
Lord Rothschild proposed a collection be made for widows and orphans of the Transvaal War. £4.l7s.3d raised.

Part of the Recreation Ground allotted for tennis courts and a bowling green; the rest of the ground to be used for grazing sheep and calves.
Dispute over changeover date from football to cricket on the Recreation Ground.
Request for "the electric current" to be made available in the village.

Clerk resigned over inadequate salary (£5 per annum).

All iron railings collected for the war effort except those around the Moat, Church and War Memorial.
Parish Constables not appointed for the duration of the war because sufficient Home Guards & Special Constables live in the village
School sanitation scheme provided - linked to urinal in Recreation Ground.

1943
 
Insufficient hose in the village to cover hay-rick fire at Mitchell Leys Farm.
Rubbish dump at Nup End closed "outbreak of swine fever" monthly collections proposed.

Dr. Benes, President of Czechoslovakia donated funds for a bus shelter to be erected at The Handpost (Wingrave Crossroads).
Salute the Soldier Week raised about £3,500.

VJ-Day (Victory in Japan) celebrations included tea for the children.

Fire Parties "Stood Down".
Three year elections for Councillors resumed.
Old Peoples Homes proposed.

Agreed to erect Local Fire Station on the Recreation Ground. Also a playground for children.
